Oral Cancer Screenings

Check for changes in your mouth

Oral cancer screening is part of the dental examination at Silverlake Dental Group. We look for unusual changes in the mouth and surrounding tissues and ask about symptoms you may have noticed. An examination can help identify areas that need further evaluation, even when they are not painful.

What to tell your dentist

Mention a mouth sore that does not heal, a persistent lump, a red or white patch, unexplained bleeding, or a change in swallowing or your voice. Let us know how long the change has been present and whether it is getting worse. Your health history and tobacco or alcohol exposure can also help guide the assessment.

When more evaluation is needed

A screening is not a diagnosis and cannot rule out every problem. If we see a suspicious area, we explain the recommended next step, which may include monitoring, referral, or a biopsy. Do not wait until your next routine cleaning if a change persists. Prompt evaluation is important, and our team can help you arrange an appropriate appointment.
