Implants vs. Bridges vs. Dentures: Which Tooth-Replacement Option Is Right for You?

Start with your goals and oral health

Replacing missing teeth can improve chewing, appearance and comfort. The right choice depends on how many teeth are missing, the condition of neighboring teeth and gums, available bone, your health and your budget. No option is best for everyone.

How the choices differ

An implant is placed in the jaw and supports a crown, bridge or denture. It can replace a tooth without preparing its neighbors, but requires suitable conditions, a surgical procedure and healing time. Additional bone treatment may be needed.

A conventional bridge uses neighboring teeth to support a fixed replacement. It may suit teeth that already need crowns, but those supporting teeth must be assessed and prepared. Cleaning beneath the replacement is an essential daily task.

A removable partial or complete denture replaces several or all teeth. It can be a practical option when a fixed restoration is unsuitable. Fit, stability and adaptation vary; implant-supported dentures are another possibility for selected patients.

Questions for your consultation

Ask about the complete treatment timeline, expected maintenance, repair needs and total fees, including any preliminary treatment. An exam and imaging help turn a general comparison into a plan suited to your mouth.
