Why Choose Us?
Silver Lake's Multi-Specialty Dental Home - Where Everything is Under One Roof
Choosing a dentist is one of the most personal decisions you make about your health. You’re not just choosing a set of services — you’re choosing a team of people you’re going to trust with your mouth, your comfort, and in many cases your confidence. At Silverlake Dental Group, we’ve spent over a decade building a practice that we believe is genuinely different from what you’ll find anywhere else in Silver Lake or the surrounding neighborhoods. Here’s why our patients stay — and why new patients keep finding us.
1) An Entire Specialist Team All in One Office
Most dental practices are general dentistry offices that refer out when things get complicated. You need oral surgery? Referral. Root canal? Referral. Gum disease treatment? Referral. Dental implants? Referral. Each referral means a new office, a new waiting room, new paperwork, months of scheduling delays, and providers who don’t communicate with each other in real time.
At Silverlake Dental Group, our entire specialist team practices under one roof:
Dr. Joshua Barkhordar, DDS — General, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry. UCSF graduate, advanced implant residency at University of Illinois Chicago, over 15 years of practice.
Dr. Bobby Aminpour, DDS — Board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. NYU-trained, six-year surgical residency, one-year orthognathic surgery fellowship at Swedish Medical Center Seattle. Performing oral surgery since 1997. Wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, bone grafting, jaw surgery, IV sedation and general anesthesia — all in our office.
Dr. Nathan Eshoiee — Periodontist. Gum disease treatment, scaling and root planing, laser gum therapy, gum grafting, bone grafting, and periodontal maintenance.
Dr. Joseph Kim, DDS — Endodontist. University of Pennsylvania-trained root canal specialist and board member of the American Endodontics Association.
This means your general dentist, oral surgeon, periodontist, and endodontist all know your case, communicate directly, and coordinate your treatment as a unified team. No referrals. No gaps. No starting over with a new provider every time something specialized comes up.
2) Sedation, IV Sedation, and General Anesthesia in Our Office
Most dental offices that offer sedation offer nitrous oxide — laughing gas — and call it sedation dentistry. We offer the full spectrum:
- Nitrous oxide for mild anxiety and routine procedures
- Oral conscious sedation for moderate anxiety
- IV sedation for significant anxiety, complex procedures, and patients who want to sleep through treatment entirely
- General anesthesia for complex surgical cases, severe dental phobia, and special needs patients
IV sedation and general anesthesia are administered by Dr. Aminpour — a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with specialized anesthesia training and full licensure to administer IV sedation in the office setting. Your vitals are monitored continuously throughout. You don’t need a hospital. You don’t need a separate anesthesiologist. You wake up with everything done.
For patients who have been avoiding dental care because of anxiety — this changes everything.
3) Cutting-Edge Technology That Benefits You Directly
We invest in technology because it produces better outcomes, more comfortable experiences, and more conservative treatment. Every piece of technology in our office exists to serve our patients — not to impress them.
iTero 3D Digital Scanner — Replaces messy impression trays with a precise digital scan of your teeth in minutes. Used for Invisalign, clear aligners, nightguards, and treatment planning.
CEREC In-Office Milling System — Designs and mills permanent ceramic crowns, onlays, inlays, and veneers in our office in a single appointment. No temporary crown. No lab wait. No second visit.
CBCT 3D Cone Beam Imaging — Full three-dimensional X-ray of your jaw, teeth, nerves, sinuses, and bone structure. Used for implant planning, wisdom teeth evaluation, jaw surgery planning, and endodontic diagnosis.
In-Office 3D Printer — Fabricates custom nightguards, clear aligners, surgical guides, and other dental appliances in-house, often same-day.
Dental Laser — Used for gum treatment, cavity detection, and soft tissue procedures with less bleeding, less discomfort, and faster healing than conventional methods.
Air Abrasion — Drill-free cavity treatment and surface preparation for sealants and bonded restorations. No vibration, no heat, often no anesthesia needed.
Digital X-Rays — Low-radiation digital radiographs that produce instant, high-resolution images for faster, more accurate diagnosis.
4) Minimally-Invasive Philosophy
We believe the best dental treatment is the one you never need — and the second best is the most conservative one that works. Every clinical decision at Silverlake Dental Group is made with the goal of preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible and intervening only as much as necessary.
This shows up in how we practice every day:
- Silver Diamine Fluoride to arrest active decay without drilling
- Curodont remineralization to reverse early cavities before they require a filling
- Air abrasion for small cavities without drills or injections in many cases
- Nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste protocols for high-risk patients
- Dental sealants to protect vulnerable molars before decay starts
- Guided implant surgery using 3D planning for more precise, less invasive placement
- Laser gum treatment as a less invasive alternative to surgical periodontal therapy
We’d rather help you avoid a filling than place one. We’d rather arrest decay early than restore it later. And we’d rather make dental visits something you don’t dread than something you need sedation to get through.
5) Same-Day and Urgent Care
Dental problems don’t follow a convenient schedule. We offer same-day emergency appointments Monday through Friday for patients in pain — toothaches, broken teeth, lost crowns, abscesses, and soft tissue injuries. When you call, our team assesses your situation immediately and gets you in as quickly as possible, often the same morning.
Because our oral surgeon is in-house, surgical emergencies that would require a separate referral at most practices — complex extractions, acute infections requiring IV sedation, post-surgical complications — can be handled right here without sending you somewhere else.
6) Transparent & Honest Communication
We believe you should understand everything that’s happening in your mouth — what we found, what it means, what your options are, and what each option costs — before anything is done. No pressure. No upselling. No dental treatment you didn’t ask for and didn’t need.
Before any treatment begins you receive a complete, itemized cost estimate. We verify your insurance benefits in advance and maximize your coverage. We explain every procedure in plain language before we perform it. And we give you honest recommendations based on what’s actually best for your dental health — not what’s most profitable for us.
Dr. Josh grew up in a family of dentists and is raising his own family in this neighborhood. He treats every patient the way he’d want his own family treated — with thoroughness, honesty, and genuine care.
7) A Genuine Neighborhood Office
We’ve been on Glendale Blvd for almost a decade. We know this neighborhood — the families, the runners, the creatives, the young professionals, and everyone in between. We’re not a corporate dental chain with rotating providers and scripted interactions. We’re a locally owned, independent practice where Dr. Josh knows your name, remembers your history, and genuinely invests in your long-term oral health.
Silver Lake is a community that values authenticity, quality, and doing things with intention. That’s exactly how we try to practice dentistry.
8) Free Parking & Easy Access
We know parking in Silver Lake can be a challenge. We have a free parking lot in the back of our building — no meters, no time limits, no circling the block. We’re conveniently located on Glendale Blvd, easily accessible from Los Feliz, Echo Park, Frogtown, Atwater Village, Glassell Park, Highland Park, and Glendale.
9) Flexible Payment Options & Work with Insurance
We work with most major PPO dental insurance plans and handle all insurance verification and claims filing on your behalf. For patients without insurance, our SDG Membership Plan starts at $425 per year and includes cleanings, exams, X-rays, and meaningful discounts on all treatment. Flexible financing through CareCredit and Sunbit is available for larger treatment plans.
We believe cost should never be the reason someone doesn’t get the care they need.
10) We're Different...in a Good Way
Whether you’re looking for a new dentist, need a specific procedure, or have been putting off dental care for years — we’d love to meet you. New patients are always welcome and no referral is needed for any of our specialists.
Call us at (323) 922-6016, text us at (323) 283-9162, or request an appointment online. We’re at 2390 Glendale Blvd in Silver Lake, open Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with free parking in the back.
