Dental Crowns at Silverlake Dental Group
Having chips, cracks, or holes in your teeth can oftentimes be embarrassing and prevent you from smiling comfortably. If you are feeling self conscious about the appearance of your teeth, dental crowns may be the right option for you. Dental crowns are covers or caps that protect and restore your teeth after damage or decay. At Silverlake Dental Group, you can choose from porcelain or ceramic dental crowns, depending on your unique needs and preferences. We will match your dental crown to the natural color of your teeth, so it blends in seamlessly.
What to Expect During the Procedure for Crown Placement
First, we will evaluate the health of your teeth to ensure that any decay has not spread deep into the tooth. After any decay has been removed and treated, we will prepare your tooth for the crown, removing a part of the enamel to ensure a proper fit and support for the crown. After we’ve made an impression of your teeth, we will send it to the dental lab to create a custom crown that matches the exact shade of your natural teeth. You will receive a temporary crown in the meantime to protect your teeth. You will then come in for another visit where we will place the crown in your mouth to make sure it fits and that you are satisfied with the appearance. The crown will then be permanently placed with cement.
Proper Care for Your New Crown
Over an extended period of time, your dental crown can wear off or fall off. However, it can last for many years with proper care. Here are some tips to help you enjoy your dental crown for many years to come:
- Visit our office for regular check-ups and cleanings
- Brush and floss your teeth regularly to avoid cavities on the treated tooth
- Do not chew on hard food objects such as ice
