Replace Missing Teeth with Reliable Dental Implants
Are you missing one or more teeth and want a more reliable, permanent solution? Dental implants may be the right option for you. When we have missing teeth, it can make us feel self-conscious, especially if we’re missing visible front teeth. Dentures may be a good option, but because they are not permanent, they take more maintenance and care, and do not offer the stability that implants do. Dental implants, however, are made out of titanium rods that are fused to your jawbone under the gumline with a crown attached on top. They resemble your natural teeth in both form and function, allowing you to speak, chew, and bite normally.
What is a dental implant?
Dr. Josh Barkhordar discusses what an implant is and how it works.
What Makes You a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
Because getting dental implants involves oral surgery and the titanium rod must fuse to your jawbone for the procedure to be successful, you must be able to heal properly. If you have a condition that does not allow you to heal quickly, or you do not have healthy gums and jawbone to support a dental implant, this procedure may not be the right option for you. If you are not a good candidate for dental implants, our dentists can still find an alternative solution for you. Contact us for a consultation.
Dental Implant Restorations
While dental implants are made to last and they rarely have issues, there are some factors that may cause your implants to become loose or damaged. These include:
- The implant did not fuse properly with your jawbone
- You develop periodontal disease and your jawbone deteriorates, causing the implant to become loose
- Biting on hard foods or hard objects, causing your implant to crack or fall off
