Precise measurements during root canal therapy

An apex locator is a small electronic device that helps the dentist find the end of each root canal. Knowing the exact working length lets us clean and shape the full canal and seal it without going past the root tip.

How it works

A tiny instrument in the canal and a gentle clip on the lip complete a very low, painless electrical circuit. The device reads the change in electrical properties as the instrument approaches the root tip and signals when the end is reached. It is used alongside X-rays, not as a replacement for them, and can help reduce the number of X-rays needed during treatment.

What you will notice

Very little: you will not feel the measurement, and it takes only moments. It is one of several tools that support careful, predictable endodontic care.
