Why Do You Need a Tooth Extraction?
Your wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, can sometimes cause pain and discomfort when they grow in. If your jaw and mouth cannot accommodate your wisdom teeth, it can cause many issues. Some of the issues that can arise include:
- Your wisdom teeth will push the rest of your teeth out of alignment and alter your bite
- Your wisdom teeth can grow in sideways and damage the roots of your other teeth
- Your impacted wisdom teeth are putting you at risk for gum disease
If you are experiencing any of these issues, you may need a wisdom tooth extraction. Visit our office for an exam today.

What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction Procedure
If it is a normal tooth extraction that does not involve impacted teeth, your dentist will apply a local anesthetic to numb the area for your comfort. Your dentist will then use tools to wiggle the tooth back and forth until it is loosened and can be pulled from the socket. The area will then be cleaned and a gauze will be applied to stop any bleeding.
What to Expect During the Extraction for Impacted Wisdom Teeth
Depending on the condition of the impacted tooth and the work that needs to be done, you may need to be sedated for the procedure. We will open up a flap in your gum tissue to gain access to the bone tissue. We will then section the tooth that needs to be extracted into smaller pieces and remove it through the opening. The area will be cleaned out and a gauze will be applied. In some cases, you may need dissolvable stitches.
