90039 Dentist

Your smile is one of the first things a person will notice when you meet.  If you would like to improve your smile with a simple procedure, teeth whitening may be a great option for you, especially if you have stained, dull or discolored teeth. Our dental office is providing teeth whitening services to new and existing patients.

Regardless of how well you care for your teeth, over time, discoloration will occur.  The main causes of stained teeth are genetics, antibiotics, tobacco and certain foods. As we age, our teeth darken as well. While preventing tooth discoloration is nearly impossible, our experienced team can help reverse the effects of discoloration by helping to create a whiter and brighter smile.

Whether it’s an in-office treatment or at-home treatment, the principles of teeth whitening are the same.  A special whitening agent is applied to the teeth in order to bleach stains and brighten your smile. Our expert dentist in 90039 will discuss your whitening needs and goals with you to determine which option is best for you.

In-office teeth whitening is the quickest method to a brighter, whiter smile.  With the supervision of an experienced dental professional, a stronger bleaching solution can be used than with at-home kits. Optimal results are achieved much faster with the professional whitening treatment, and in many ways the results are much better given the nature of the bleaching agents that are used. On average, patients find they appear up to ten years younger just by restoring the bright, white smile of their youth.

During a professional teeth whitening treatment, we will first clean the teeth.  They will apply a whitening agent to your teeth, carefully avoiding your gums and soft tissue.  Once applied, a laser light will be directed at the teeth to expedite the process.  For maximum results, the process may be repeated more than once.

If a visit to our office for professional whitening isn’t an option for you, at-home treatment may provide the whitening you need. While you will find a vast variety of at-home teeth whitening products on the market, including whitening toothpastes, over-the-counter gels, rinses, strips, trays and more, we can fit you with custom-made whitening trays that will more accurately fit to your teeth for a more even whitening result.

At-home teeth whitening results are less dramatic compared to those achieved at the dentist. While at-home teeth whitening is easy to use, it is not recommended if your teeth or gums are sensitive.  If you are looking to brighten your smile and look ten years younger, contact our dental office in Los Angeles, CA for more information or to schedule a consultation today.

As a parent, the best way to help ensure your child has a lifetime of healthy teeth is to help them establish great dental hygiene habits as they grow.

Here are some useful tips from our dentist in 90039 for keeping your child engaged by making dental hygiene fun:

Pick out a special toothbrush.

One great way to keep your child excited about brushing is to allow him or her to choose their own toothbrush in a favorite color or branded with a favorite cartoon character. Child-size soft-bristled brushes come in a wide variety of options designed to make your child like their toothbrush.

Choose children’s toothpaste.

Another great option is to use a toothpaste that is designed for kids. While adults generally prefer the fresh mouth taste of a minty toothpaste, many children find mint to be too powerful a flavor. This can make brushing unpleasant or even painful to sensitive taste buds. Instead, let your child choose a children’s toothpaste. There are many options available in a variety of soft mint, fruity, and bubble gum flavors. It is much easier to keep your child brushing for a full two minutes when their toothpaste tastes good.

Use a timer.

Two minutes can seem like a long time to a child. It can be very difficult for your child to try to estimate or count how long to brush without some kind of visual aid. You can help your child stay more engaged and ensure a full two minutes of brushing by using a timer. Choices range from a small sand timer your child can flip over, to a manual stopwatch with buttons to press, or even an app on a phone or tablet to time digitally (if your child is old enough). By letting your child take control of the timer, they can be more confident and more engaged in their brushing.

Brush together.

A parent is the first and strongest role model for their child. Brushing together can help your child model your great brushing technique, which will improve their own. Additionally, brushing together emphasizes to your child that brushing is important. When your child sees that you take dental hygiene seriously, they are likely to follow suit.

When you decide to invest in dental implants to restore your smile, you want to make sure you find the perfect dentist. Quality dentistry you can count on is important to ensure your implant procedure is successful.

There are many things to look out for when choosing a dentist in your area. Dentists should have proper training and years of experience in implant dentistry. It is important that the dentist you choose is heavily involved in continuing education. This ensures they are staying on top of the latest trends and techniques available in the dental industry. If you need a source or list of dentists in your area, you can visit the American Academy of Implant Dentistry website to locate an implant expert.

What Are Tips To Consider When Choosing My Dentist?

  • Complete research on your own and find out what services your dentist offers, and how many years they have been treating patients.
  • Check on their continuing education experience to ensure your dentist is providing the highest level of care and technology to all patients.
  • Research or ask questions about the dentist’s experience and background on implant dentistry, and how many patients they have treated successfully.
  • Ask friends or neighbors that have had implant surgery, and have them provide feedback on the procedure and recovery process.
  • Look for a full-service practice that can handle the entire process from start to finish. You don’t want to have to visit multiple offices when you are going through an extensive process like dental implant surgery.
  • Talk to your dentist about sedation options and what may work best for you. It is important to feel comfortable about the dental implant process, and your dentist should want to help choose the best option for sedation that works for you.

At Silverlake Dental Group, we are a full-service practice, and our passion is restoring smiles for our patients. Patients that choose to move forward with the dental implant process wonder how painful the procedure will be. Dental implants look and feel natural in the mouth, and are a great restorative solution for those that have missing, cracked, or broken teeth. Our customized treatment plans work for each patient’s needs, and we work closely with our patients every step of the way.

Overall, the implant process is not painful. Many patients say that the dental implant process is less painful than having a tooth pulled. To keep patients comfortable we use local anesthesia and numb the gums around the implant area. Our team also checks to make sure each patient has enough bone present in their jaw to support their new implants. If necessary, bone grafting can be done to give patients the bone required in their jaw. This is an extra step in the process and does require additional healing.

How Is the Implant Healing Process?

The healing process for dental implants takes between 4-6 months. Antibiotics may be recommended to patients, as well as pain relievers to help with the healing process.

After Your Implant Procedure You May Have the Following

  • Minor bleeding that should subside after a day or two.
  • Minor swelling or bruising around the face and implant area.
  • Some pain or sensitivity around the implant area.

If patients notice any pain, swelling, or bleeding that does not subside, or gets progressively worse we encourage you to contact our office immediately. You will need to be seen in our office as soon as possible. During the healing process soft foods are recommended, and patients should stay away from foods or drinks that may stain your teeth.

Dental implants can last up to 25 years or a lifetime if they are cared for properly. The pain associated with the dental implant process can be kept at a minimum by following the at home care instructions. Implants are a great choice for patients seeking a beautiful smile that is permanent and will last for years.

Advances in dentistry now allow us to place dental implants without pain thanks to conscious sedation in dentistry. At present we have innovative techniques and resources, which are very useful, so that the patient does not suffer discomfort and also the fear of the dentist, which is a frequent condition in the day to day of a dental clinic.

Dental implants with conscious sedation

To place dental implants with conscious sedation, we need to intervene the gum and maxillary bone. General anesthesia may be an alternative, but the patient loses consciousness and connection with the environment, we do not consider it appropriate. On the other hand, with local anesthesia, we can eliminate the pain, but not the apprehension and stress that causes the patient to perceive the intervention at all times.

What is conscious sedation?

It is a set of procedures, carried out, always with a collegial anesthetist, with whom we control pain and produce a feeling of well-being and serenity while we perform dental implants.

Inhalation sedation

With this type of procedure we provide the patient with a mixture of gases that generate relaxation and loss of sensation. It is especially indicated in people who fear needles, when there is anxiety and in children.

Intravenous sedation

In this case, drugs are administered through a venous puncture. The procedure is done in the same dental clinic and the effect can be adjusted, according to need, dental treatment and medications administered.

Advantage

  • Conscious sedation allows us to achieve an environment of calmer, less stress and collaboration on the part of the patient.
  • The patient does not feel pain, or anxiety in the consultation, or during treatment.
  • There is no risk of developing dentist phobia, as there is no traumatic situation.
  • In dental implants with general anesthesia, unconsciousness does not allow the patient to follow indications, but this sedation does.
  • Multi-session procedures are greatly reduced.

Requirements for conscious sedation

We will have an anesthesia specialist who has all the necessary means to carry out sedation. It is important that the patient, know the anesthetist beforehand and if requested, teach the facilities before undergoing the intervention. The necessary equipment will be a pulse oximeter, to measure oxygen saturation, a sphygmomanometer, for blood pressure, an oxygen delivery device, a defibrillation device and medication for the induction of anesthesia and subsequent recovery.

Before procedure

The patient should refrain from drinking liquids and food 6 hours before the procedure and be accompanied by an adult. In order for us to perform sedation, we must have the results of coagulation tests and a previous electrocardiogram.

After the procedure

We will continue monitoring after the procedure until the patient has fully recovered from sedation. You can then return home on your own foot, but we recommend that you be accompanied by another person. You should avoid driving the car and dangerous machinery, and you will not drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours. It is normal to feel certain discomfort in the intervened area for a few days, which will be perfectly controlled with the medication prescribed by the specialist in oral implantology. On the other hand, if there is intense or sacred pain, the dentist should be consulted.
